Are you interested in experiencing an amazing country and culture?
“Do not miss out on going on the Vietnam study tour because you did not ask Dr Timmy your questions” (Soon to be famous quote by a soon to be famous author).
I am excited to let you know that we again have the opportunity to take 15 students to Vietnam in November / December 2016. Many of you may know that over the past few years students undertaking Hospitality Management Applied Project (200561) and Sport Management Applied Project (200751) have had the opportunity to participate in a study tour to Vietnam to experience an amazing country and culture and understand more about their industries in an international context. My name is Tim Hall (aka DrTimmyHall) and will be organising the study tour to ensure students (and staff) have a fun, exciting, educational and rewarding trip.
So, where is the tour up to at the moment?
Well, I have been in touch with many of our contacts in Vietnam to arrange activities for the study tour and I have also being liaising with the travel agent to start to reserve airfares, rooms, etc. As a result I am hoping to have an initial quote and a draft itinerary next week (once I have the itinerary I will post it on my blog). One thing I can tell you is we are looking at a departure date of Saturday 19th November 2016.
So what type of activities have I been organising?? Well let me give you a tease, there is a behind the scenes tour of a five star hotel, possibility to play AFL in Vietnam (there is an organised competition you know) and a challenge to eat something you have never tried before (what ever you are thinking may well be on the menu). When you see the itinerary we do cover a lot of activities but there is still plenty of time for your own sight seeing and exploring on most afternoons and dedicated rest periods in Hoi An for you to recharge the batteries (which is code for shopping). But remember, I have one shopping based rule for the study tour – “you buy it, you carry it”
For those interested in what the group on the study tour were up to last year check out the duelling blogs from the tour over the past few years, DrTimmy blog and the Happy Buddha blog
For students who are Australian citizens you may also be eligible for a subsidy which will come of the final cost of the study tour.
How to gain a place on the tour?
All you need to do is tell us ‘why you want to go on the study tour and what you hope to gain from the tour’ (include something Vietnamese) in your submission. Your application should be creative and may be a video or other format, although it needs to more than an e-mail or letter. As part of the judging we will looking for those applications which take an innovative approach to the task. Have a look at Andrew’s submission from last year
Applications are due by 9am Monday 6th June
If you have questions and would like to speak privately to students who have previously undertaken this study tour please let me know and I will try to arrange this for you
I hope this answers some of your questions and if you would like to know more please do not hesitate to add a comment or send me an e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or give me a call 0414 017 369
The study tour to Vietnam offers you a wonderful personal and professional opportunity to experience your industry in an international context, see a wonderful culture and make new friendships along the way and I hope you consider this opportunity
