Over a number of years we have been fortunate to visit KOTO (Know one, teach one), a wonderful social enterprise in Vietnam which has helped over 700 disadvantage youth receive life changing support and training.
In visiting KOTO this year we dined in the newly open KOTO restaurant in HCMC. The food was amazing with a range of traditional Vietnamese dishes and we were served by trainees undergoing the KOTO program and KOTO graduates who remain at the restaurant as mentors.
After dinner we were joined by the founder of KOTO Mr Jimmy Pham who took time to speak to the students about how KOTO came to being and his inspiration and drive for not only establishing a social enterprise but continuing his commitment and passion to the cause for over twenty years.
Jimmy also introduced us to Mr Minh who is a graduate of the KOTO program who has gone on to work in five star hotels . Mr Minh gave some insight into the circumstances which saw him first come to KOTO and how his life was changed by the KOTO program.
It was also inspiring to see the students come together as group and purchase a group dream builder medallion which will feature the words “Western Sydney Uni Vietnam Study Tour 2015”, with the medallion to be displayed on the wall in the restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City.
