It is important that students balance their in class theoretical learning with exposure to industry, so they can appreciate theory being implemented in practice.  For many of the students studying Event Management, this unit is their first exposure to formal events, both in theory and in terms of attendance.

This has provided a unique opportunity to work with Dooley’s Catholic Club at Lidcombe in Sydney Australia to allow students to actually learn about event management by actually attending an event which is run by students.

To facilitate an enhanced learning of Event Management I have arranged for a group of students to run an event under the mentorship of Dooley’s Event team for 150 student colleagues who are also studying Event Management.  Students joined with hospitality and sport industry representatives for a two course meal to hear speakers and network over a three hour period.

The organising student group was responsible for all aspects of the day including menu selection, setting the room, table setting, securing speakers and industry partners and coordinating the running of the event both front and back of house.

The video below gives an overview of the day.
